Description: The positive impact of the fourth industrial revolution and related new technologies will be fully realized through the large-scale deployment of 5G communication networks along with other connectivity solutions. The key operational strengths of 5G open a wide range of opportunities, including optimizing service delivery, decision-making and end-user experience. Enabling the use cases enabled by 5G can create significant economic and social value. IHS Market Research predicts that by 2035, global economic value of $13.2 trillion will be enabled by 5G creating 22.3 million jobs in the global value chain. To better understand this, the 5G ecosystem was mapped to identify its components, stakeholders and interdependencies, and the measures needed to accelerate 5G adoption and realize its full potential. Challenges were identified for each component (frequency, infrastructure, equipment, services, impact, and security). Close collaboration between stakeholders is needed to ensure that all initiatives to accelerate 5G deployment are coordinated and interdependencies are understood. One key area of collaboration that requires multi-stakeholder input is strengthening the commercialization of 5G by quantifying the potential social value that will be created. Many of the current use cases are technically enabled by 5G functional drivers and are made possible through multi-stakeholder collaboration and cooperation.
